BOY kit layout...

Hi and happy Sunday all, I'm back to share another LO created with the gorgeous Jan BOY (Book of You) kit.. Continuing on with the 'Childhood Memories' theme of the kit, I've scrapped this pic of my youngest daughter, Jem with one of her fave book series (and mine) called 'Old Tom'...

I've used lots of items from the October Afternoon 'Sidewalks' line including pattern paper hand cut flowers and some buttons, ribbon, and tickets from the 'Miscellany' pack...

and the title using the Authentique alpha stickers..

I've finished off with a couple of buttons from my stash, some glimmer mist, gesso and hand journaling.. Full instructions are available in the BOY kit group for subscribers..

Journaling 101 - tip#4

Hello Friends! Welcome to another quick and easy tip for creating more journaling on your pages...

This month it is all about taking notes and listing them, in point version, on your layout. What could be easier than that?!

February is the month of "love"! And I wanted to share a few things I adore about my children. Of course I couldn't add everything! That would be impossible! hahaha.. But I condensed my list down to four simple and meaningful points.

So, the next time you are stuck for writing the right words, just scale back and list the things you love the most in point form.

What's Hot for February?

Back again with a quick post for the month that was FEBRUARY!!!! Yes it is almost done and dusted is this year flying by or what?

Ok back to the job at hand, Feb is of coarse the month of Valentines day and we all know it is a day of Hearts... but out there in the crafting world I have noticed that hearts are so the thing right now, they can be so versatile, masculine as well as for the girlies.

So in honour of "The Heart" I got into my "heart groove" and produced some cards that can be used for anything really. I tried to keep them generic with no gender bias at all, so here are my efforts very simple and quick (that seems to be the priority for me right now).

Hearts are so easy to cut out yourself no need to go to the expense of buying manufactured ones use your scrap PP's!!!!

For even hearts just fold your paper in half and cut, open it up and you have a perfect heart!

So quick and used my stash never ending as that is!

For a cheap chipboard look why not just use any old cardboard... I used a backing board off a paper pad ( yes I don't throw anything out..... just in case) cut it out then stamped some script over the top. You could even cover the board with some tissue or PP, then cut for some dimension easy peasy!

I did cheat a bit for the heart above, I used an old punch I had from way back, called a brush stroke heart I think. It is ancient, as I used it to make my wedding invites about 18 years ago!!!! Wow!! That takes me back and makes me feel very...... mature!!!!

On that note, must go. Give THE OLD HEART A SHOT ladies would love to see what you can come up with!!

Templates

Hi Chicks,

I just wanted to share with you a little technique using one of the Crafter's Workshop templates that are available in the BOXX shop.

Templates are so versatile - you can use texture paste on them, spray them, draw with them......and the list goes on.

For a layout that I just completed for the Boxx of Scraps I masking taped my template onto my cardstock to start with ( cause yeah, they can move ) - I then mixed texture paste and paint together and applied it to my template.

I then sprinkled glitter onto it while the texture paste was drying - I did give it a little turbo blast dry with the heat gun to quicken up the drying process.

Once it was dry I removed the template and dah dah dah - a sparkly tree........

This was how the layout turned out......

If you haven't given this a go yet then do it - I am pretty sure you will be proud of yourself and what you created......

Book of You kit layout...

Hi everyone, I'm taking over from the lovely Julie Winks to share my BOY creations with you...I just love the October Afternoon 'sidewalks' range in the latest kit! It reminds me of my own childhood and the adventures I would get up to...so you may have guessed..the theme for this kit is 'childhood memories'.

For this layout I scrapped an photo of my dear sister and myself aged approx. 7 and 5, playing with an old pram in our grandmother's backyard..

I've used a mixture of handcut flowers from the OA 'hide and seek' paper, several pieces from the 'miscellany' pack (which is just brimming with cute bits and pieces) a few word and label stickers and a couple of small buttons from my stash to compliment the large OA ones..

I've used the large and small Authentique alphabet stickers for the title..

... and added a bit of stitching for texture, a few ink drops.. also a little piece from the Studio Calico (background paper) strip..

I'll be back again soon to share another layout using this fun kit.. thanks for stopping by!

"What's Hot Catch up"

Ok, so I have been very neglectful of late but with the Boys going back to school this week I am keen to make up for lost time!!!! So Apologies and a happy creative year to all you fellow Boxxers!!!!

So what has been the hot thing in paper craft circles of late? Well I will tell you my passion at the moment is Tape, Tape wonderful Tape!!!!!!!! Just cannot get enough of the stuff and seems to be my go to product for everything right now!

Ok, I hear you all groan and say how it can be a little expensive but you seriously do not have to spend a fortune! Do yourself a favour and raid the shed/ garage/ Bunnings and get some masking tape ..... wonderful versatile gear! The bonus is it is so cheap and comes in different widths for your creative pleasure!!! You can jazz it up buy adding some ink, stamp on it, write on it, the possibilities are endless......
In this LO I used masking tape then stamped it with a red circle pattern, it blends in with a little washi tape and the paper strips can make it look like I have used all my tape in one LO!

Even though it has been around for a while, a heap of the paper ranges coming out at CHA this week have tape within their ranges, I want them all!!!!! But in the mean time have a go at using the cheats version..... it is full of potential!!!!

Journaling 101 - tip #3

Hi Everyone! Today's journaling tip is another very easy one. It is all about the title and how you can use it as a launching pad into more journaling on layouts....

I'm not sure about you, but I am often drawn to layouts that use different fonts and styles in the titles. There is the element of interest of course, but I find that the "long" title draws me into the story being shared. It is most definitely a starting point - a first paragraph if you like.. :) And it can set the tone for the rest of what you want to document.

"Have Faith"

My story has been shared behind the "blank" shipping tag about my son's fear of going into deep water. What my title documents, are my words of encouragement to help him, step by step, conquer his reluctance of even going near the water's edge.

I found by starting with my title it allowed me to focus on what story, I really wanted to capture. I could have written about where we were and what we were doing (things that I included in my story anyway) but I stopped and ignored the obvious. Boy about to go swimming... Even in the short months since taking these photos, my son has blossomed near and in the water. He absolutely loves it, but I wanted to remember the time he wasn't quite sure about it. It was a fleeting moment but part of our lives all the same.

So, the next time you are trying to decide what you want to title your layout, consider the story behind the photos and see if that helps lead you into more journaling.

Hello everyone..
how are we all this wonderful Aussie DAy.. i hope you all had an enjoyable one.. well me i packed boxes..yep finally started packing coz it dawned on me that NEXT weekend we are moving.. wowzers that was quick......
so anyho....
onto why i am here..and its for this months Manufacture WATCH..and what have i been watching you ask.. well it is a favourite brand of mine.....

i have created one layout to show today and then i'll back over the next few days with anothery for you....

Handwriting

Hi Boxxers,

Do any of you have a fear of your own handwriting?

Let me tell you a little story - I have been scrapping for about 6 years now and nearly every single layout that I did either contained NO journalling or COMPUTER GENERATED journalling - it did not matter how good a layout looked, the minute I put my own writing to it I immediately hated the layout with a passion.

It was not the fact that my writing was messy the fact was it was too neat and my problem was that I admired the scrappers who had the funkiest handwriting that just looked amazing.

At the beginning of last year I made a pact with myself that from now on any page that I created MUST be handwritten on - OMG how was I going to do this?

Well let me tell you..............you are all gunna think i'm kooky now (anyone who scraps with me has a big giggle at my expense) - I discovered that if I wrote my journalling lightly on my page in pencil and then turned my page upsidedown and wrote in marker it gave my journalling a slightly creative edge.

So my tip and challenge to you all today - next time you tackle handwritten journalling on your layout try doing it upsidedown to see if you like it better.

It's a Lift!

Hello lovely people!!

This is a scheduled post, so as you read this, I'll be either splashing around at the beach on the Sunshine Coast, or laid back at the day spa... probably snoring! lol

Anyway, back to business. It is my turn to pick a layout from the Boxx Gallery ... and shamelessly lift it! I couldn't go past this stunning page by the gorgeous and super talented, Heather Jacob. I just love the white on white with a touch of cream and golden tones. I've wanted to do something like this for ages and this gave me the perfect opportunity. I also loved the layered strips of punched paper and the white chippy element on white cs... and of course the stitching (duh) :)

December Boxx of Scraps

This Boxx of Scraps is a bittersweet one for me - sweet because it was such fun to design and create with. A little sad that it will be my last kit with Scrapboxx as I have resigned from the design team after two fun-filled years.

This kit has a really vibrant and cheerful Summer vibe, with flowers, clouds and fluttering creatures galore! I had such fun playing with it. Instructions for this first layout 'Garden Girl' will be uploaded to the Boxx of Scraps group shortly.

December Book Of You

Hello Again... :)

Back with my final installment of the Book of You Kits....
The December Book of You is all about "The Things I Love About Christmas".

For me, Christmas means simply, spending time with my special people and really cherishing those everyday moments and taking the time to focus on the fundamentally important things... like just giving your children the gift of your time and attention. Only then can we really appreciate these special moments that might otherwise go un-noticed.

My first layout is all about a photo I took of my eldest son on Christmas Day this year. He’s a very active little man and just doesn’t stop from the moment his eyes open in the morning, until bed-time. It was nice to watch him find things to do on Christmas Day when we were camping at our local camping spot, especially in such a lovely tranquil setting.

My second layout is all about my youngest son. He gets away with soooo much more than his brother and sisters ever did at the same age.... even chocolate before breakfast on Christmas Day! I just adore the ‘and what are you going to do about it’ look on his face... although I know I shouldn’t! :)

Journaling 101 - tip#2

Hello Friends! I'm here today to share with you all another little journaling tip to help you put your stories down on your layouts. This month it is easy! I'm encouraging you all to write a letter.

Start with your title. Usually that would include the words; to/dear/dearest... Ideas for a title could include "A note to myself", "To my friend" or as I've used "Dearest"...

My letter has been written on a journaling tag and addressed to my four children. But you could easily write a letter on note paper and place it in a pocket or journal directly onto the layout.

Here's a little tip. Even if you don't have a photo in mind yet to scrap. You could always write the letter and go from there. Think about all those love letters you might have hidden away!!

why hello there.... its me ... lj .. back again with this months manufacture watch..and for this month i got the Lily Bee Designs... Memorandum collection kit...

looks pretty cool hey.. i have actually done 2 layouts with this but i'm only goin to show one tonight......

yep yep.. as you might be able to tell this range is very... well muted i suppose... but it also has some funky b sides.. so i just added some paint and some stitching..and then some TECHNICOLOR photos just to make everything POP...and you know what i love the effect... looks super...

well thats it for me today.. i'll be back to share another layout from this kit real soon.. but in the mean time ..there is only 1 kit left but there are still some of the pp's avaliable so hurry over and get one today..... seriously..

Fortnightly Challenge

Hello again!

It is my turn to set the fortnightly challenge at The Boxx and how could I ignore Christmas? I know it is a busy time for all of us, so I have made it pretty simple. The theme is 'Celebration', so I'd like you to feature one way in which you celebrate Christmas. For me, whenever we spend Christmas Day with my family, we start the day with champaign! Yep, it feels terribly wicked and indulgent.... but I just love it nontheless! :)

well my friends... you could say that i'm an idiot..but thats nothing new is it..LOL.. so anyho. i've actually had these done for over a week and forgot to put them up.. WHOOOPS... so here they are.. two samples for this months BOXX OF SCRAPS............
first up.. "Lifes Dreams"

some simple punched butterflies ... made from the pattern paper that i used for the border strip...

and then the gorgeous butterflies.. and YES they are included in the KIT.... sweet...........

and then layout number 2....

a mixture of leftover patern papers and then some stitching and the ever popular {well at the moment.. ripped triangly bits {sorry for the technical term...LOL} and some closies....

some photos... and then how i punched but not fully through butterfly for something different...

and then the birdcage and another of the butterflies... woohooo....

Journaling 101 : tip#1

Hello Friends! Today I want to share a new series about journaling here at The Boxx. I hope to encourage you all to share more of your stories, document your family history and have instant recall when you look back at your pages in the future.

Is that asking a bit too much? LOL! Believe me though, it is possible. And with a few hints and tips, you will all be journaling like old pros before you know it. :D

This is certainly a busy time of year for many people. And I know sometimes... scrapbooking gets put on the back-burner during the silly season. So let's make it easy for us to get something started.

Tip #1 is to use a prompt. These are great as starting points. Of course though, you need to be motivated by it too. Think about what the words from the prompt mean to you. A good rule of thumb is to go with your first instinct. Here is our first prompt:

This season what do you need to "remember to" do... Or what do you need to "remember to" think about. Maybe it's a list of things you need to remember, like recipes and Christmas presents...

If there isn't enough room to journal all your thoughts, consider putting in some hidden journaling to help the process along. "Remember to" add the details as well.

November Book of You Kit

Hello Lovely Ladies!

The Next Book of You installment is all about....

The kits are out and, for those of you who have them and are keen to get busy, the instructions are now available to all kit subscribers in the Book of You Kit Group at The Boxx. A lovely blend of 7Gypsies Off the Wall, Basic Grey Out of Print and Bo Bunny Forever Fall papers, not to mention the AWESOME Prima resist canvas shapes. The 7Gypsies Rubbings, Pyramid Brads and Carolee Creations alpha stickers finish this kit off just nicely.

I tried to look past the obvious things that would be common to all of us and really thought about the things that keep me going when everything around me seems to be falling apart. The things that make me realise that my problems are only fleeting and that there are so many more important things to focus on.

I believe wholeheartedly in the power of laughter. I laugh a lot... at almost anything! I think my children have inherited the giggles from me and their joy is most definitely music to my ears and one of the things that I could never live without.

Layout two is totally predictable, yet unavoidably true. It is all about the one person that I couldn’t do without. My best friend, my sounding board, my comforter.... my guy.

Hello All...

Michelle here with my first official DT post! Oh I hope I live up to the brief..... What is Hot Right Now in the Scrapping world????!!!!

Well after much research ie prowling the net....( under the guise of fulfilling obligations that's what I have been telling DH anyway!)

Art Journalling! I know it has been around forever but is making a big surge of late. Scrapbookers are tuning into this, I think, due to the fact that making our own backgrounds (another "in" thing) is totally hot and probably will be for a long time yet.

Art Journalling is a great opportunity to try out all those new techniques on a smaller scale. I have wanted to start one for years and have finally given it a go and I have to tell you, it is really fun to play and let the juices flow! You start with something then it turns into something completely different.

This is my first shot at it using my scraps to play with collage.

Then I started to splash a bit of paint around, play with the stamps and other bits in my stash. It really is a great release with no pressure of producing that perfect page to match a treasured photo.

This one was inspired by Donna Downey and if you haven't visited her blog yet.... do yourself a favour girlfriend, hop on to that creative wagon and enjoy that inspirational ride..... awesomeness at your fingertips.

And before I bore you all stupid this is the last page I did, more fun with paper, tissue and paint!

I love quotes so this form of art helps me keep track of some of my faves, but you can record anything or nothing if you like... remember there are no rules!!!!

I will be writing up a few tips and tricks I have learnt along the way in my Blog (not that I am an expert, just started myself you hear) in the next few days so if you have questions head over there (not too quick though gotta give me time to write...)

hideee ho everyone.. its just me back with a Manufacture/Product watch..and what are we watching tonight..well Pink Paislee thats who....

and what..

the MISTABLES...... these are fantastic..... i have created a layout using.....

Mistables paper pack.. {just between the two of us..SO much better than the first lot of mistables..so much thicker so no leaking through to the back...woot woot}and....

these canvas scollop mistables.. super handy.... AND...

these fuzzy do dahs.... AND....

this SUPER fun Mask......and this is what i created......

"I Love You"

can you see everything...... i really love the way this came together.. {yes i know unfortunately it all isnt Pink Paislee.. i seriously struggle with one brand..i try..hehehe} and then some closies...

i made the flower by misting a strip of the medium sized scollop strips with two different colour glimmermists and then did the whole pull the ends together with thread to create a flower.. added one of the fuzzy vinyl stickers and a button..sweet hey......... AND then...

some more scollops... 1 strip glimmered and the other left raw and then drew with pen to create an outline..
and there.. can you see the mask.... the black bit.. hang on .. maybe scroll back up the top and have a closer look.. but i first up misted the mack black through the middle..and then stuck the fuzzy vinyl tree on there and it was just alittle white.. so i just squirted some yellow for alittle extra zing.....

so there you have it.. what did you think..

there is still some of all of these products left in store..so go out and get them now and have a play..they are WAY to coolio....................

October Book of You

For those of you who have not yet gotten your hands on a Book of You Kit this month .... hurry, hurry, hurry!! lol

I had a lot of fun putting this one together with my absolute fave CHA release, Bo Bunny's Et Cetera range. I absolutely love it!!

The Theme for this month is:

Not such an easy task, I soon discovered!

The things that define us are an accumulation of experiences, how we have dealt with these experiences, the people that have shaped us and why we do the things we do. Not just what we like and don’t like, but why? How do you put into words what is at your very core?

I think you just have to start writing and hope that, somewhere in between the lines, lies what it is that makes you tick. That is what I did anyway... and this is by no means exhaustive. I think you just have to start somewhere and break it up into smaller tasks. What defines you could be a ‘Book of You’ all of it’s own... maybe a mini album?

{Defining Me}

For my second layout, I thought about the things that play a role in shaping who we are. For me, the biggest indication of a person’s nature has to be the types of people they choose to have around them. How many times have we heard the saying “You can tell a person by the company they keep”, or words to that effect? Our friends (unlike family..lol) are around us because we have chosen them. For whatever reason, we have gravitated toward them. This page then, had to be about my bestie, whom I would like to think speaks volumes as to my character, and I love her to death! :)

Tips? Tricks? or just advice?

Hi Peeps,

BB here - I'm back - did ya miss me?

Anyhow you will be seeing me around a bit more frequently now ( Oh come on - im not that bad - he he), I have finished uni for the year and technically have until March off - that is of course unless I fail a subject ( but shhhhh about that ) - oh before I forget thankyou all so much for your best wishes before my exams it meant a lot to me.

So, what am I bringing to the table today? A tip? A trick? or just some advice? I really don't know where to classify it, but I was working on a page last night and got a little bit stumped, I stared at my page for a second and then had a minor brain wave.

How do you create texture without it dominating your layout?

I know there are a million different brands of texture paste out and they are all different in the effects that they give. I wanted to create dimension that wasn't overpowering - this is what I came up with

I used one of the Crafter's Workshop templates ( that you can purchase from here )
Put my texture paste over it
Before it dried I sprayed a mist all over it
Gave it a 5 minute dry with the heat gun
And then gave it another light spray

So as you can see by the final product -

The texture is there but it does not take over the page.

I hope I have been of some help - but if you have anything that you would like some advice on please leave a comment and I will do my best to help you out.

Book of You Kit | August 2011

This month is all about the things you wish for! This can mean many things to you. It would also mean different things to different people. I tend to think of wishes as a little less material than goals, less tangible perhaps… but just as important, if not more so.

So, for me this month, it’s about my most important wishes coming true. For my first layout, I used some of the yummy BG Sweet Threads pp, BG Sweet Threads layered stickers, Hambly frames, Kaiser alphas and buttons from the kit, rolled on paint full of texture and plenty of messy tangled up thread.

{Things I Wish For}

For my second layout, I chose to use the same photo! Yes, it’s ok to scrap the same photo more than once!! If a particular photo really has meaning to you, it may be that it means something to you for more than one reason. Scrap it as many times as you like to express the emotions that that one photo elicits…. or the memories that it relates to… or the messages that you want to tell those loved ones in the photo!

Here we have Pink Paislee Eclipse from the Twilight collection (big 'twerd' that I am), MME Stella and Rose, Hambly frames and mini frames and some more of those BG Sweet Threads layered stickers and buttons.... oh, and a little bit of book paper and tissue tape from last month's kit thrown in for good measure! :)

i just mounted the sticker embellies on some white cardstock and then cut around them leaving alittle border .... look s great hey.....

Book Of You Kit | July 2011

Hello Guys,

Well the Book of You Kit is my baby for the next 6 months and I'd love for you to all play along with me.

The first kit is all about 'Things I Remember'. Things from your childhood that might be tucked away in all the nooks and crannies of our memories. Things that we may not think of on a regular basis. Things that we risk loosing forever if we don't get them down on paper!

Here are the goodies:

The kit itself is a real mish mash of goodies including LYB, Lilybee, 7Gypsies Conservatory and Pink Paislee pp's, tissue tape, LYB Bliss lacecut frame, Kaisercraft Blooms, Scrapware chippy alphas and a couple of sheets of cardstock too.

For my first sample layout I have employed what I call a 'blind typing' kind of technique. Just type all the things that come to mind. Don't look at the monitor, don't correct grammar or spelling... just type. Let your mind wander through the years, starting with your earliest memories and slowly moving forward. They can be events, things, people or feelings. I've gone up to the age of 10 or 11. You could even do one layout for every decade if you like. You'll be surprised what you come up with. Leave the corrections and formatting until last. I then decided to form my journaling into 'thought bubbles'.

For my second layout, I decided to extract one of those memories and highlight it in a page of it's own. I was really surprised by how much I remember from the three years I spent in England as a child, so I found a photo of the town we lived in... and even found our house on Google Earth! lol. I really enjoyed the whole process and hope it helps you retrieve some long lost treasured memories.

Hi everyone and welcome to the new blog!! This is my very first blog post for Scrapboxx. Today I wanted to share with you, some of the gorgeous bits and pieces available in the Boxx of Scraps kit this month!

There is a great mix of Basic Grey, Cosmo Cricket and Bo Bunny patterned papers. Plus the embellishments to round out the kit include Sassafras paper whimsies, Jillibean Soup sugar picks and some super fun Bazzill Basics bling! Jane has even thrown in some felt and die-cut shapes.

I must admit I've been really eager to get my hands on it. :) And why not! These papers offer many different opportunities to scrap every subject you can think of. Go on. Challenge yourself!!
